Justin Trudeau made a playful exit this past week after stepping down as Canada’s Prime Minister following an emotional, final speech.
Trudeau, who has been in power since 2015, announced in January that he would resign as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. Over the past few months, he has made his leadership intentions clear, mainly as tensions grew between Canada and the U.S., with Donald Trump threatening tariffs and rumors swirling about Canada becoming the 51st state.
Despite the political challenges, Trudeau has been “working overtime” to defend Canada’s interests, standing firm against U.S. tariffs and meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to show support for Ukraine. Whether you admire Trudeau or not, his efforts to stand up for Canadians have been a point of national pride.
Now that Mark Carney has taken over as leader of the Liberal Party, Trudeau’s farewell has been making headlines. On March 10, 2025, after officially stepping down, Trudeau was spotted leaving Parliament with his tongue out and chair in hand—an unexpected but amusing sight from Canada’s longest-serving Prime Minister in a decade.
In keeping with parliamentary tradition—where lawmakers take their chairs upon leaving office—Trudeau gave the ritual a comedic twist, creating a farewell many Canadians found entertaining and endearing.
